My desktop wallpaper for July is called Summer Nights by Mandi Coleman. I like it for three reasons. The first is that it reminds me of Alice in Wonderland’s tea party scene, which I’ve seen dozens of times, though it still makes no more sense to me after each viewing than the last. You know what doesn’t make sense in this wallpaper? The lack of an extension chord for those lights in the tree. How did they do it?
Reason number two is that it looks like a fun dinner party that I would like to attend. I used to attend a rotating host group dinner every month or maybe it was every other week. Eventually too many people moved away and so it fizzled out. Those were some good times and I met a lot of people at those dinners that I still spend significant amounts of my free time with these days.
Third reason is that I was sick (again this year!) during the 4th of July and saw fireworks only via random attention grabbing explosion through one window or another. The ones pictured here help form mental images of what it might have been like to be outside, witnessing the sound and all of the colors of streaking fire at once.
Real life. It’s full of bright colors for me, which is another reason why I am drawn to this image for my computer background. Sometimes you just need to rest your eyes on something dark and calming, you know?
“Explore. Dream. Discover.” This is my desktop wallpaper for May. The subdued tones, fonts and the quote used give a sense of calm and whimsical possibility. The print overlay over the wood stripe on the right has a cute little face bordering the calendar on a horizontal axis. Imagery featuring the open road is always a plus as well.
